Brady Quinn, Starting Quarterback

Wednesday 9/9/09 - Len

The biggest secret in the NFL this summer was in Cleveland. While Marvinbrady_quinn.jpg Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals exposed all in HBO's season of "Hard Knocks", their Ohio neighbors did everything in their power to keep what happened behind closed doors STAY behind closed doors.

As we all know, it's hard to keep a secret. Whether it be through "Twitter" or anonymous sources, we always find out what we want to hear.

Cleveland's new Head Coach Eric Mangini stressed secrecy in his new regime. No talking about meetings, no talking about injuries, AND DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE QUARTERBACK SITUATION. Jeez, I hope they were allowed to talk about football.

The QB situation in Cleveland wasn't much of a controversy, but more of a battle. Derek Anderson has started the last two seasons for Cleveland, outright winning the job in camp- and even went to a Pro Bowl in 2008. Brady Quinn, a former 1st round pick by the Cleveland Browns, sat on the bench under Head Coach Romeo Crennel. Now, with the Mangenius at the helm, Anderson is the one sitting.

An anonymous source (who else?) has said that Brady Quinn has been named the starting QB for the Browns. Apparently, Mangini notified the QBs Tuesday night and on Quinn took the 1st team reps today.

I give Mangini credit. 1) In my opinion, he made the right choice, and 2) He kept this secret for over 2 months. Nice job, Eric- but never doubt the omnipotent power of an anonymous source.

Keywords: Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns, AFC, Eric Mangini
