Matt Stafford Named the Starting QB

Monday 9/7/09 - Len

Jim Schwartz was handed an 0-16 football team. In my opinion, you can onlystafford.jpg go up from there (that is until the NFL eventually goes to an 18-game schedule).

Well, Schwartz made a right decision today when he announced that Matthew Stafford would be the team's starting quarterback to start the 2009 season.

Stafford, the #1 pick out of Georgia, is the star quarterback that Detroit has been craving for its entire existence.

The team is one of the oldest in the NFL and yet it is constantly rebuilding, with it's golden years being over 50 years ago. The Lions have won only one postseason game since it won the 1957 NFL Championship game, and although many don't think they will be competing for at least a few more years, starting Stafford over Culpepper was the right move.

The biggest question in my opinion is what the heck has happened to Daunte Culpepper? The guy was one of the best QBs in football and had a faster drop-off than a Mets team playing in September. Oh well, best of luck to Stafford- with that O-Line, you'll need it.
